The President General of notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress, ONC, Ambassador Comrade Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, has expressed joy and commended security agencies for the successful and safe release of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The victims regained their freedom on Friday after spending more than 50 days in captivity. The development was announced by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
In a statement, Amb. Ibe described the release as a relief not just to the families of the victims, but to Nigerians concerned about the safety of schools and rural communities.
“After over 50 days, I must highly appreciate the effort of our security agents over the successful and safe release of the kidnapped pupils and teachers,” he said.
“This is a welcome development and very interesting to note. It shows that with commitment, coordination, and sincerity of purpose, our security forces can secure the release of citizens and restore hope.”
The ONC President General also extended condolences to the family of the teacher who was reportedly killed during the abduction.
“I condole with the family of the teacher initially killed. May God grant them the fortitude to bear the loss and may the soul of the departed rest in peace,” he stated.
Amb. Ibe further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as “fatherly concern” and leadership in ensuring the victims’ release.
“I must commend Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the fatherly concern shown throughout this period. Nigerians are watching and we appreciate efforts aimed at protecting lives and property,” he added.
While celebrating the release, Amb. Ibe urged the federal and state governments to strengthen security around schools, especially in rural areas, to prevent future abductions.
“The trauma our children and teachers have gone through is avoidable. We must invest more in intelligence, community policing, and early warning systems to protect our schools,” he said.
