The Distinguished lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, has congratulated His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, CFR, the Alake of Egbaland, on his emergence as the new Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Traditional Rulers.
The appointment followed the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past chairman, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Olugbenle, MFR, the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland.
Senator Adeola, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, said he is confident that the highly revered monarch will bring his wealth of experience in public service and community development to bear on his new leadership role.
“I am sure that the Alake, a highly revered and enlightened royal father, will bring his wealth of experiences in public service and community development to bear on his new leadership position for all monarchs, for the peaceful development of Ogun State,” Senator Adeola stated.
The lawmaker, popularly called ‘Yayi’ by his admirers, noted that the Alake’s tenure coincides with another general election season, placing a critical responsibility on the Council of Traditional Rulers.
He said traditional rulers, being closest to the people, have a vital role to play in sensitizing citizens to shun violence and participate peacefully in the electoral process.
“As his tenure coincides with another general election season, he will be tasked with leading other traditional rulers to urge their subjects to be peaceful and to exercise their franchise according to the rules and regulations,” Senator Adeola said.
“Traditional authority is closer to the people and is in the best position to advocate for peaceful elections in the state for all elections.”
Senator Adeola exalted the leadership acumen of the Alake and prayed for divine wisdom, strength and good health as he pilots the affairs of royal fathers in the state.
He also urged the new chairman to continue to contribute to good governance through wise counsel to government officials at all levels.
The senator commended the immediate past chairman, Oba Olugbenle, for his service to the traditional institution and wished him well in his future endeavors.
