
Seplat Energy has announced changes to its board and executive leadership as part of its long-term succession plan, according to a statement shared by the company and by Tony O. Elumelu on his social media platforms Tuesday.
The company stated that Mr. Tony O. Elumelu will become Chairman of the board in January 2027. He is set to succeed Senator Udoma Udo Udoma.
Seplat Energy also named Effiong Okon as Chief Executive Officer, with his tenure to begin August 1, 2026. Okon will succeed Roger Thompson Brown, who has spent 13 years with the company, including six as CEO, and is retiring.
The company said the appointments are part of its Roadmap 2030 growth strategy.
In a post on his social media platforms, Elumelu said he is “honoured to succeed Senator Udoma as Chairman in January 2027 and to lead the Board through @SeplatEnergy’s next phase of growth.”
He added, “I firmly believe in the critical role indigenous resources play in the economic transformation of Nigeria and Africa, and Seplat’s culture of execution and governance aligns strongly with my own values”.
Elumelu thanked Senator Udoma and Roger Brown for “their stewardship” and said he looks forward to “delivering further value for shareholders”.
On the appointment of Effiong Okon, Elumelu said, “His deep industry experience gives me great confidence that @SeplatEnergy is well positioned for its next chapter of growth”.
According to company records, Tony Elumelu is the Founder of Heirs Holdings and was earlier appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Seplat Energy.
Seplat Energy is listed on the Nigerian Exchange and the London Stock Exchange.
