The Ikeja Local Government Chairman, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), will mark his first anniversary in office with a three-day programme featuring a youth campaign, commissioning of community projects, recognition of retired staff and distribution of palliative food items.
The anniversary activities, scheduled for Monday, August 17 to Wednesday, August 19, 2026, reflect the administration’s commitment to youth development, infrastructure, environmental sanitation and social welfare.
The programme commenced on Monday, August 17, with a Fitness Walk and Youth Campaign against Drug Abuse, Cultism and Other Illicit Vices in commemoration of the administration’s first year in office and International Youth Day.
The walk commenced at 7:00 a.m. from the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat to Allen Avenue.
On Tuesday, August 18, the administration will commission the rehabilitation of RST Apena Close, featuring drainage construction, interlocking stones and streetlights.
Also to be commissioned is the rehabilitated Bashiru Owen Street, with interlocking stones and streetlights, as well as the ultra-modern public toilet constructed under the bridge in front of the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat
The day will also feature a recognition of service for retired staff of Ikeja Local Government.
The anniversary programme will end on Wednesday, August 19, with the distribution of palliative food items to residents and vulnerable members of the community.
The Chairman, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda, has expressed appreciation to residents and stakeholders for their support during the administration’s first year and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering people-oriented governance in Ikeja.
