The All Progressives Congress, APC, has announced its Presidential Campaign Council for the January 2027 elections, naming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as chairman and Vice President Kashim Shettima as vice chairman.
The list, released Saturday morning, places former Zamfara State governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as director-general of the campaign. Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, will serve as secretary.
APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will also serve as a vice chairman of the council. National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and former NPA Managing Director, Hadiza Bala-Usman, were named deputy and assistant secretaries respectively.
The council will operate with a three-tier leadership structure.
President Tinubu will work with an advisory body made up of party elders and stakeholders including Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Segun Osoba, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and Senator Florence Ita Giwa.
For coordination across regions, the party named three deputy director-generals:
– Senate President Godswill Akpabio — South
– Speaker Tajudeen Abbas — North
– Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State — North
They will work alongside Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibril Barau, in the two zones.
Other principal appointments include:
– Senator Adams Oshiomhole — Deputy Director-General, Mobilisation
– President’s Chief of Staff — Deputy Director-General, Administration
– James Abiodun Faleke — Deputy Director-General, Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring
Faleke, who played a key role in the 2022/2023 campaign, will oversee election operations with six zonal directors: Senator Olushola Adeyeye, South West; Dr Ngozi Olejeme, South; Senator Uche Ekwunife, South East; Muntaqha Rabe, North West; Ahmed Muhammed Ketso, North Central; and Senator Sani Danladi, North East.
Secretaries of the election planning directorate are Ms Stella Okotete, Engineer Abdullahi Garba Ramat, and Audu Maikori.
The legal directorate will be led by Muiz Adeyemi Banire as director, with Dr Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala as deputies. Members include Prince Lateef Fagbemi, former Governor Ibrahim Shema, Worgu Boms, and Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh.
For communications, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, will serve as coordinating director for media and strategic communication. He will work with Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga, and Lanre Issa-Onilu.
Coordinating deputy directors in the media directorate are Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala, and Felix Morka.
Coordinating secretaries are Abdulaziz AbdulAziz, Temitope Ajayi, Arabinrin Aderonke, and Frederick Nwabufor.
Segun Dada returns as Director, New Media, with Solomon Arowolo as Secretary, New Media.
The party also named five spokespersons led by Dele Alake. Others are Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu, and Adamu Fanda.
Announcing the council, President Tinubu urged members to work to deliver victory for the APC in 2027.
“We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress. We are definitely out of the dark tunnel and are now at the cusp of reaping the benefits of a prosperous economy that will benefit all Nigerians,” he said.
“As we march into the campaign season, we have many achievements to trumpet—let us confidently showcase our record and inspire hope in every corner of our nation. Let us soundly defeat all those forces who plan to take our country backwards.”
The President also encouraged directorate leaders to reach out to other party members not formally listed to join campaign efforts.
The council reflects a mix of continuity and new faces. Faleke’s return to election planning, the elevation of Yari to DG, and Uzodimma’s role as secretary point to an emphasis on grassroots mobilisation, election logistics, and coordination between the presidency and state structures.
With the inclusion of National Assembly leaders, governors, ministers, and media strategists, the APC appears to be setting up for a campaign focused on both party structure and public messaging around the administration’s economic record.
The campaign season for the 2027 general elections is expected to begin in the coming months, with political parties required to adhere to guidelines to be issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
