Preventing Opposition Rallies While Holding Ruling Party Rallies: Are We Pushing Nigeria Toward Anarchy Before 2027?

EMMANUEL PETER ADAYEHI

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, reports emerged that supporters of Mr. Peter Obi and Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso were prevented from holding a rally at the City Gate/Fountain area in Abuja, while a rally linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) reportedly held in Kaduna. The reported deployment of armed personnel to the Abuja venue raises serious constitutional questions.

Data and Constitutional Framework:
– Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) guarantees freedom of assembly and association.
– The Police Act 2020 and Electoral Act 2022 require political parties to give notice to the Police for rallies, but not to seek permission that can be arbitrarily denied.
– INEC is the sole body constitutionally empowered to print and secure ballot papers and to display the voter register under Sections 2 and 19 of the Electoral Act 2022.

My Concern as a Nigerian in Diaspora:

If opposition rallies are blocked in Abuja while ruling party rallies hold elsewhere, it creates a perception of selective application of the law by security agencies including the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the military. That perception itself is dangerous for 2027.

For the 2027 elections to be credible, I appeal to:

1. INEC on Voter Register: In line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, INEC should publish and display the voter register at polling units ahead of time. I call on Obidient and Kwankwasiyya supporters in Kaduna, Rivers, Plateau, Oyo, Borno, Enugu, Bauchi, Sokoto, Delta, Kano, Adamawa, Benue, Kogi and Lagos to legally verify their names at their polling units.

2. INEC on Ballot Security: INEC should publicly disclose its ballot printing and storage process to debunk rumors about access to sensitive materials.

3. Security Agencies on Neutrality: All law enforcement agencies must remain neutral, as demanded by Sections 214-216 of the Constitution.

4. Ad-hoc Staff Integrity: INEC and NYSC should publish the verification process for ad-hoc staff to ensure only genuine Corps members are deployed.

Conclusion: The rally at City Gate should have been professionally managed, not prevented with heavy deployment. If Nigeria must avoid anarchy in 2027, the rule of law must apply equally. The current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must ensure that security agencies remain neutral in line with the Constitution.

Notes: Ensure to contact Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu NYSC should publish the verification process for ad-hoc staff to ensure only genuine Corps members are deployed.

The Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, sharply cautioned Abdulaziz Yari, the Director-General of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign council, during a courtesy visit to his palace in Katsina.
Key Details of the Encounter

• The Warning to the Campaign Team: The Emir warned Yari and the campaign delegation against making unfulfilled promises, spreading falsehoods, and ignoring the harsh realities facing citizens.

• Focus on Insecurity and Hardship: The monarch emphasized that people in Northern Nigeria are suffering deeply, noting that farmers can no longer safely go to their farms due to widespread banditry and insecurity.

• Call for Accountability: He reminded the campaign chief that political lies and unfulfilled commitments will ultimately invite public accountability and divine consequence, stressing that leaders must truly value, respect, and prioritize the welfare of the people.

• Stance on the Palace: The Emir made it clear that his palace is not a polling center or a rubber-stamp venue for political propaganda, urging politicians to deliver tangible improvements rather than relying on empty campaign rhetoric.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu has set aside: Kaduna, Rivers, Plateau, Oyo, Borno, Enugu, Bauchi, Sokoto, Delta, Kano, Adamawa and Lagos, for their densely population to rig take note Obidient Movement/Kwankwasiyya Movement.

Fake Ebola Government News. The Nigerian government confirmed its first imported case of ebola virus on October 20, 2026, in Abuja (an individual with a travel history through Uganda), triggering active tracking of 44 close contacts and heightened airport/border surveillance. My question is why is the index being protected from the general public by Bola Ahmed Tinubu and why earmarked N12 billion for unconfirmed case while military, police and generally pensioners are on the street begging to be paid their monthly pension. Insecurity, economic hardship and major decisions taken by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is making Nigerians suffer.

Peter Obi and Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso Presidency Could Mean: Inland Ports, Baro Port Niger State, and a New Economic Map for Nigeria

Nigerians, what is your take? Your vote is your confidence to accelerate productive investment and regain economic independence.

If Nigerians vote for Mr. Peter Obi and Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, one transformative economic agenda that should be prioritized is the full revitalization of inland river ports and the development of new deep seaports in the South-East, South-South, and Middle Belt, with Baro River Port in Niger State as the central hub.

The Economic Logic:

1. Baro Port as a National Gateway: Baro Port in Niger State, on the River Niger, was conceived since the colonial era as a link between the North and the coast. If fully dredged, modernized, and connected by rail and road, containers can move from the Atlantic through Onitsha and Lokoja to Baro. This would create a viable economic corridor through Benue, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, and the FCT Abuja.

2. Regional Economic Stimulus: A functional inland port system would:
– Decongest Apapa and Tin Can ports in Lagos
– Reduce pressure on housing and traffic gridlock in Lagos and Ogun State
– Reduce environmental pollution and cost of living in Lagos
– Create new industrial clusters, warehousing, and manufacturing emblems in the Middle Belt
– Open up huge mechanized agriculture and animal husbandry value chains in Northern Nigeria, as farm produce can be exported directly via river and rail

3. Food Security and Competition: States like Benue, Plateau, Niger, and Nasarawa are Nigeria’s food baskets. With cheaper logistics from inland ports, food can move faster to markets, reduce post-harvest loss, and create healthy competition that can lower prices. This improved food availability and reduced urban stress can contribute to better living standards and gradual improvement in public health indicators.

4. National Cohesion: When every region has a port or is linked to a port, ethnic tension reduces. Northern Nigeria becomes a hub for agriculture and livestock processing, South-East and South-South for manufacturing and maritime trade, and the Middle Belt as the logistics bridge. This promotes cohesion and mutual respect in the federation.

5. Private Sector Partnership: This vision will require serious partnership with private sector leaders like Dangote Group for industrial infrastructure, and Nigerian diaspora investors. For example, Chief Omoboriowo, a Nigerian shipping entrepreneur based in California who has expressed willingness to return and deploy his shipping lines if there is a stable and reform-focused administration under Peter Obi and Dr. Kwankwaso. Such diaspora confidence must be backed by transparent port concession policies.

Conclusion:

Nigerians have seen the pictures of abandoned Baro Port. Your vote is not just for a president – it is for productive investment, ability to work with your head high as a Nigerian, and an economy where Lagos is not choking while other regions are empty.

A Peter Obi and Kwankwaso administration should commission an independent feasibility study, environmental impact assessment, and financing model for:
– Revitalization of Baro Port
– Development of additional deep seaports in South-East and South-South
– Standard gauge rail linkage to Baro, Abuja, and Kano

This is how we can decongest Lagos, reduce crime linked to urban overcrowding, and build a Nigeria where economic independence is real.
