The remains of Pa Michael Adelani Ogundimu, head of the family of Ogun State APC governorship hopeful, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, were on Saturday laid to rest in Pahayi, Ilaro, amid an outpouring of tributes from family, political associates and community leaders.
The funeral service, held at the United African Methodist Church, Pahayi, Ilaro, in Yewa South Local Government Area, drew dignitaries and well-wishers who came to pay their last respects to the octogenarian described as a respected elder, community leader and consummate politician.
Pa Ogundimu, former State Publicity Secretary of the defunct Alliance for Democracy, AD, died on July 14, 2026 at the age of 86.
In his sermon, the Archbishop of the African Church, Ogun State Diocese, Most Rev. Noah Olabisi, described the deceased as a man who lived in service to God, his family and humanity.
He said Pa Ogundimu spent much of his life promoting the welfare of those around him, and that his contributions to family and community would remain part of his enduring legacy.
The Archbishop also lauded Senator Adeola for his contributions to public service, stating that the lawmaker’s work had shown that elected representatives could deliver impact beyond the ordinary expectations of office.
He challenged Nigerians to name any senator whose constituency interventions and development record could match that of Senator Yayi.
Olabisi further expressed confidence in Adeola’s political trajectory, saying his antecedents have positioned him as a frontrunner for the Ogun State governorship in 2027.
“From his records as a politician and public officer, he is the next governor of our dear state from Yewa-Awori stock. I see him in the future in Aso Rock,” the cleric said.
He urged the people of Ogun State, particularly residents of Ogun West, to keep praying for the APC candidate as the state moves toward the 2027 elections
In his remarks, Senator Adeola gave thanks to God for the life of the deceased, describing Pa Ogundimu as an elder whose presence brought guidance, stability and unity to the extended family.
He said the late patriarch was more than a family head — he was a rallying point and a source of wisdom for both the young and old.
“The life of our father was defined by responsibility, humility, discipline and commitment to the welfare of others,” Senator Adeola said.
He noted that the family would miss the deceased’s counsel, especially his ability to bring people together and resolve disputes.
The senator described the burial as a time of grief, but also a celebration of a life well lived. He said the best way to honour Pa Ogundimu’s memory was for the family to uphold the values he stood for.
Senator Adeola thanked relatives, friends, political associates, traditional rulers and well-wishers who came from across the state and beyond to stand with the family. He also appreciated those who supported the family before, during and after the funeral.
He charged family members to remain united, stressing that the legacy of their departed patriarch would be best preserved through love, unity and service to humanity.
The ceremony was attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community figures, family members, friends and associates of the deceased.
Pa Ogundimu is remembered in Yewaland for his grassroots politics, mentorship of younger leaders, and commitment to community development.
