The President General of the Orashi National Congress, ONC, Ambassador Comrade Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of 10 gallant police personnel killed during a heavy tactical engagement with suspected armed bandits in Kebbi State.
The incident occurred along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area, as security operatives intercepted a criminal group attempting to move between Zamfara and Kebbi States.
Amb. Ibe described the demise of the officers as a painful sacrifice in the line of duty for the peace and security of the nation.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the entire Nigeria Police Force, and the families of the fallen officers and civilians.
“Tragedies like this highlight the severe risks police personnel face daily to secure lives and property. Their sacrifice will not be in vain,” he said.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu:
– At least 17 suspected bandits were neutralized during the intense gun duel, and 4 operational motorcycles belonging to the attackers were destroyed.
– Tragically, 10 police personnel and 2 civilians paid the ultimate price during the engagement.
-2 injured officers were safely evacuated and are currently receiving medical treatment.
– The remains of the fallen heroes have been conveyed to Birnin Kebbi. Additional tactical units have been deployed to secure the axis and hunt down fleeing elements of the gang.
Amb. Ibe used the occasion to call for urgent reforms in the welfare and operational capacity of security agencies.
“True Police reform must go hand-in-hand with robust welfare packages, comprehensive insurance benefits for families of fallen officers, and upgraded tactical equipment to protect those who defend the civic space,” he stressed.
The ONC President General prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed officers and civilians, and for the quick recovery of the injured personnel.
“May God comfort the families of the fallen and grant the Nigeria Police Force the strength to continue in this noble fight,” Amb. Ibe said.
