The Orashi National Congress, ONC, has commended the Rivers State Police Command for its recent crime-busting operations which led to the arrest of more than 18 suspects and the recovery of large cache of arms and stolen vehicles between June and August 2026.
The President General of ONC, Ambassador Comrade Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, gave the commendation while reacting to disclosures made by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, during a media briefing in Port Harcourt.
Amb. Ibe said the achievements recorded by the Command show dedication, professionalism and commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Rivers State.
“We need to commend the Police as they are doing very well in the state. This level of arrests and recoveries is a clear signal that criminal elements have no hiding place in Rivers,” he stated.
According to CP Adepoju, the Command’s operations within the last two months yielded significant results:
– 47 firearms recovered
– 102 rounds of ammunition recovered
– 12 stolen vehicles recovered
– Over 18 suspects arrested for various crimes
The CP disclosed that three suspects linked to the June 29 killing of two Police officers during a stop-and-search operation in Aluu, Obio/Akpor LGA, have been arrested.
He added that two stolen AK-47 rifles belonging to the slain officers were recovered in Omagwa.
CP Adepoju further revealed that five suspected kidnappers were arrested in Oyigbo Local Government Area. The suspects allegedly confessed to carrying out kidnappings in Kom-Kom, Railway, Obeama and Afam communities.
In another operation, Police arrested 49-year-old Andrew Atausi along Ada George Road on August 10.
Atausi was allegedly found impersonating a military officer and was linked to car theft. He was dressed in military uniform and driving a Toyota Hilux painted in Army colours — the same man seen in a viral video having an altercation with police officers along Ada George Road.
Amb. Ibe assured the Rivers State Police Command of ONC’s support in the ongoing fight against crime, especially in the Orashi region.
He urged residents to continue to provide timely information to security agencies and called on the police to sustain the momentum in ensuring peace and safety across the state.
“We believe that with this kind of proactive policing, Rivers people can sleep with their two eyes closed. The ONC stands with the police and all security agencies working to keep our communities safe,” the ONC President General said.
