ONC Announces Special Press Conference On 2026 Flood Preparedness, Seeks Government Intervention 

 

The Orashi National Congress, ONC, has announced a special press conference on flood management as part of efforts to sensitize communities and draw government attention ahead of the 2026 flood season.

 

The press conference is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m at the Ahoada East Local Government Council Secretariat, Ahoada, Rivers State.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the President General of ONC, Ambassador Comrade Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, said the event is designed to push for proactive government intervention on flood mitigation, response and prevention strategies across the Orashi region and Rivers State.

According to him, the conference will serve as a platform to engage key government officials, emergency management experts, traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organisations and members of the public.

“The aim is to attract the attention and esteemed intervention of government towards the reactivation of Government Flood Management Committees, especially in Rivers State,” Ambassador Ibe stated.

“We must move from reaction to prevention. Our people in riverine and flood-prone communities deserve early warning systems, proper evacuation plans and relief structures that work before, during and after flooding.”
