The Ogun State Command of Vigilante Group Nigeria (VGN) a voluntary anti-crime prevention and combating organization, established since 1983 across Nigeria has thrown their weight behind the aspiration of Senator Solomon Adeola, the APC governorship candidate in the 2027 general election in Ogun State.
The group, which met with the Senator at the H3 Event Centre, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, have operatives of over 10,000 in all towns and villages across Ogun State and forms part of the state’s grassroots security architecture.
Speaking at what turns out to be an endorsement meeting, Mr. Ishola Sola Bayo, the state commander of VGN said their association with the senator for his aspiration to become governor of Ogun State dates back to 2017 before he left back to Lagos adding that they are happy he is back and their members are already part of the committed supporters as individuals.
“Before now we do not vote during elections as uniformed voluntary security organization, but because of you we have all registered to vote and will remove our uniforms to vote for you and protect our votes with all our security training. You are the best man for the job base on your antecedent of service in government” the commander stated.
He volunteered his members of VGN to be part of the security network during the campaign if given the necessary means stressing that they will work to prevent any manipulation against the popular wish of the people of Ogun State.
“In each of the polling booths, we plan to have at least 2 of our members as our eyes to prevent any rigging during election. Their assignment is to ensure that the antics of those who want to compromise people with financial inducements is thwarted” he stated.
Responding to the endorsement and longstanding commitment of the VGN, Senator Adeola expressed joy that they believed in his aspiration since 2017 stressing that they should forward the bill to legalize their existence as a grassroot security organization to him for sponsorship at the National Assembly.
“I am happy to we have been associating since 2017. I want to assure you that I will pursue your legislation for recognition at the national level. When elected as your governor in the state, I will ensure that all agencies of government retain your services” the senator stated.
He donated a brand-new bus and funds for their operational needs stressing that they play a critical role in local security.
The meeting had in attendance Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun, the deputy governorship candidate, Rt. Hon Tunji Egbetokun, former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Dr. Sikurulai Ogundele, former state chairman of PDP, Hon. Jimoh Ojugbele, the APC Ogun West Senatorial candidate, Hon. Laolu Olabimtan, Ogun State Commissioner for Budget and Planning and Hon Taiwo Oludotun, Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry among others.
