Four major court cases instituted against the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi, have been wholly discontinued by the litigants as campaigns for the 2027 election begin.
The withdrawal of the suits was described as unprecedented, with all the litigants opting to drop their cases on their own accord in succession.
According to court filings, the cases discontinued include:
1. Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/87/26 filed by Professor Awolola Awoniyi pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act 2011 against the Senator, INEC, APC, The Guardian Newspapers Limited and the Inspector General of Police. The case was discontinued on August 24, 2026.
2. Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26 filed by Arc. Akerele Abiodun John, Ogun State Chairman of Boot Party; Mr. Adeyemi Solomon Oluwaseyifunmi, Ogun State Chairman of Young Progressive Party, YPP; Mr. Ola Olamide Emmanuel of Action Democratic Party, ADP; Mr. Ayinde Oluwayemisi Abiola, a member of ADP; and Mr. Fesomade Gbadebo, a member of Labour Party, LP, against the Senator, INEC and APC.
3. Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026
4. Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26
The last two suits were instituted by some of the above party officials and members, including Dr. Olufemi Soluade, Ogun State Chairman of African Democratic Party, ADP; Mr. Oluwabukola Soyoye Temitope, a member of Labour Party, LP; and one Ogunremi Abiodun Oluwaseun against the APC candidate, INEC, The Guardian Newspapers Limited and the Inspector General of Police.
The three Abuja cases were formally dropped on September 7, 2026 in open court. The various defendants and their counsels were duly informed through “Notices of Discontinuance.”
Although no official reasons were given in court for the withdrawal, it was gathered that the litigants were convinced of the merit of Senator Adeola’s candidacy and have decided to drop their cases to work for his eventual victory at the general election in February 2027.
The development effectively clears major legal hurdles against the emergence of Senator Adeola as the APC governorship candidate for Ogun State.
Reacting, Senator Adeola welcomed the withdrawal of the cases and said he will now focus more on delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Ogun State.
He also stated that he will intensify mobilization across the state in the days ahead of the 2027 general election.
Political observers note that the discontinuation of the suits comes at a critical time as political parties begin to firm up structures for the governorship contest in the state.
