In commemoration of the 53rd anniversary of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), today led corps members serving in Ikeja Local Government on an environmental sanitation exercise along Awolowo Way, Ikeja.

The environmental sanitation exercise, which is a weekly routine carried out every Thursday, was specially dedicated to celebrating the enduring contributions of the NYSC scheme towards national unity, youth development, and community service across Nigeria.

The Ikeja Chairman commended the corps members for their commitment, discipline, patriotism, and selfless service to the nation, describing the NYSC scheme as one of Nigeria’s greatest platforms for fostering national integration and grassroots development.

Speaking during the exercise, Comrade Dauda encouraged the corps members to continue to uphold the values of diligence, integrity, and service to humanity, while contributing positively to the growth and development of Ikeja Local Government and Lagos State at large.

He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting programmes and initiatives that empower young people and promote a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment for residents.

Also in attendance were Mrs. Christiana Salmwahg, NYSC Lagos State Coordinator; Mrs. Ojumu Abosede, Local Government Inspector (LGI), Ikeja Local Government; Hon. Seun Makinde, Special Adviser on Environment, Ikeja Local Government; Hon. Christopher Joseph, Special Adviser on Youth and Sports, Ikeja Local Government; and Sanitarian Olatunde Omotayo, Head of Department, Environment, Ikeja Local Government.

The sanitation exercise witnessed active participation from corps members, local government officials, and community stakeholders, as they collectively demonstrated the spirit of service and environmental responsibility.
