WISDOM ONIEKPAR IKULI
When I received a text message conveying a message of an Important Meeting with His Excellency, Pastor (Hon.) Peter Akpe Ph.D, the outstanding Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, my heart was full of joy.
Besides his training as a pastor and a very renowned lawmaker who served over a term in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, he is one leader that encounters with him are always historic, memorable and very impactful.
His humility, accessibility and positive disposition like that of our noble principal, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, is always disarming. The good hearts and compassionate dispositions of two noble leaders humbles even their worst critics.
When I arrived at the Creek Haven Government House, I was shocked when the ever friendly security personnel at the gate asked about my own committee. As a wise man i just told them to confirm the name since I had received a reminder text message and even phone calls towards the above meeting with His Excellency.
It was at the Office of His Excellency that they broke the cheering News to me that the Governor has graciously appointed me as a member of the Publicity Sub-committee for the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Creation of Bayelsa State.
Besides my stomach that is the biggest amongst all members of the committees, I discovered i am one of the youngest persons among the eminent and very outstanding Bayelsans.
For me, it is a rare privilege to be selected, appointed and found worthy to work with this unique team of illustrious Bayelsans.
I wish to use this opportunity to advice and also encourage young people to be committed to every assignment. Let us imbibe the spirit and motto of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) which says ‘Service Before Reward’. Most times you may think people are not watching or seeing your immeasurable sacrifices. Just remain resilient, loyal, committed and dedicated.
As a young person that is striving for greatness, do not go for money, go for service delivery and good result. At the end, your result and positive impacts shall bring the money and reward.
I thank my worthy principal, His Excellency, Very Distinguished Senator Douye Diri for his undiluted love and commitment to my welfare and well-being. I also appreciate His Excellency, Pastor (Hon.) Peter Akpe Ph.D, who may not know that he has remained a great source of inspiration and motivation to me and multitudes out there because of his humble life of service to God and humanity.
May God bless all my benefactors abundantly through Christ our Lord, Amen!
