To the glory of God, the Umuchu Divisional Police Headquarters in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, which was burnt down by hoodlums during a violent attack several years ago, has been reopened and restored to full functionality.
The Division was officially reopened on Thursday, October 15, 2026, by the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Nnanna Orji Ama, PSC, MNIPS, who was physically present in Umuchu to commission the rebuilt facility and address stakeholders.
It will be recalled that the Division was attacked, vandalized and set ablaze in 2023 during a period of heightened insecurity in the South-East, forcing Police officers and men attached to the Division to vacate the premises and relocate to the Aguata Area Command, Uga, from where they had been operating in the last three years.
The attack had left the community without a functional divisional headquarters, affecting response time to distress calls and creating security concerns among residents of the six towns under its jurisdiction.
With Thursday’s reopening ceremony, the Division is now back to its base and fully operational for effective policing, crime prevention and protection of lives and property.
It is worthy of note that the Umuchu Divisional Police Headquarters has operational jurisdiction over all towns in Aguata South, Aguata 1 Constituency, namely Umuchu, Achina, Akpo, Amesi, Nkpologwu and Uga. Traditional rulers, town union leaders, youth groups, women leaders and other stakeholders from all the towns were present to witness the historic reopening ceremony.
Speaking at the event, community leaders said the process and journey leading to the reopening of the Division was not easy, appreciating all individuals and groups who contributed in one way or the other to make it a reality.
In a special way, they appreciated the Umuchu Improvement Union, UIU, Lagos Branch, led by Sir Ossie Nwankwu, popularly known as Paparex, for handling and financing the comprehensive repair works in the Division. According to the community, the UIU Lagos Branch spent millions of Naira to fix the Division within the past two weeks, including roofing, plastering, painting, doors, windows, and furnishing.
They also appreciated Odimma Umuchu, led by Chief Sir Nze Chukwudi Ifediba, Ochendo, for its constant support to Umuchu security architecture and for financing the reopening logistics and facilitation.
Other notable contributors whose efforts were acknowledged included Hon. Prince Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike, Ezeakunne, H.E. Godwin Ezeemo, Achinagbaraoha, Chief Osinanna Umuchu, Umuchu Ministers Forum, Engr. Obiora, Igwe Umuchu ably represented by the Palace Secretary, Chief Prof. Echezona Ifejirika, Ogbuonyaragu, as well as past and present administrations of the Umuchu Improvement Union and Residents Association, UIURA.
The community also expressed profound gratitude to security agencies, Agunechemba operatives, the Aguata Area Command led by ACP Dike Albert, PSC, the DPO Umuchu, CSP Lateef Adeyemi, and the FOB Aguata, for their support and commitment to restoring peace.
Community leaders reiterated that security is everyone’s responsibility and urged residents to continue to say no to crime, provide useful information to the police, and support the officers now that they are back.
