The South West Agenda for Asiwaju, SWAGA, is set to inaugurate its Zonal, Local Government and Local Council Development Area structures in Lagos State as it launches a fresh phase of grassroots mobilisation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election and the governorship bid of Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
According to a statement issued by the group’s Steering Committee on Thursday, September 17, 2026, the inauguration, tagged “Lagos SWAGA 2.0: Consolidating Grassroots Mobilisation and Deepening Political Engagements for the Renewed Hope Agenda,” will hold at the Eko FM Multi-Purpose Hall, LTV Compound, Coca-Cola Bus Stop, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja.
The event will have the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, as Guest Speaker, while the Director General of the PBAT/KOH Campaign Organisation in Lagos, Senator Musiliu Olatunde Obanikoro, will serve as Chairman.
The organising committee described the event as a strategic expansion of the movement’s footprint across the state, aimed at consolidating political structures at the grassroots and ensuring that the achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda are felt in every community.
SWAGA, widely credited with spearheading the call that drafted Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu into the 2023 presidential race, said it is now positioning itself to return him to power through massive grassroots mobilisation.
The group also pledged its full support for Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, the APC’s governorship candidate, to succeed incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2027.
“Since its inception, SWAGA has been at the forefront of championing visionary leadership and political inclusion,” the statement read.
“Building upon the monumental successes of its initial phases, SWAGA 2.0 shifts its focus toward deepening community engagement, fostering inclusive governance, and creating a unified front ahead of future political milestones.”
Members of the Steering Committee include former members of the House of Representatives — Hon. Mosuru Owolabi, Hon. Hakeem Abiodun Muniru, Hon. Lanre Odubote, and Hon. Deji Jakande; former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adefunmilayo Tejuoso; Hon. Remi Adebowale, former Special Adviser on Civic Engagement to the Lagos State Governor; and former Lagos Council Chairmen — Shamusudeen Abiodun Olaleye and Hon. Kamal Bashua, now Honourable Commissioner, Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, and Aarebirin Hon. Princess Dr. Folashade Olabanji-Oba, former ALGON National Vice Chairman and now Honourable Commissioner, Lagos State Local Government Service Commission.
The highlight of the occasion will be the swearing-in of newly appointed zonal coordinators and local administrators drawn from past legislators at both state and federal levels, alongside serving and former federal and state functionaries.
According to the statement, the new coordinators will drive the movement’s advocacy, mobilise communities and serve as a vital link between the leadership and the electorate across all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State.
Political leaders, party stalwarts, community influencers and grassroots mobilisers from across the South-West are expected at the event.
