The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations and Distinguished Lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, has expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun, Chief Olusegun Osoba and other former governors of Ogun State, as well as leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for his adoption as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
The adoption, which took place at a well-attended APC Caucus Strategic Meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, was announced by Governor Abiodun with the unanimous support of key aspirants and stakeholders present.
In a statement issued shortly after the announcement, Senator Adeola described his emergence as a product of unity, equity, and collective resolve within the APC.
He particularly thanked President Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for their commitment to fairness and inclusiveness, noting that the decision reflects a historic shift in favour of Ogun West Senatorial District, which has yet to produce a governor since the creation of the state 50 years ago.
“ I must specially thank President Tinubu for his mentorship, guidance and support in my political life and journey. He, alongside Her Excellency, Senator Tinubu has always been supporting my aspirations over the years” he stated.
He also conveyed his gratitude to Governor Abiodun and the First Lady, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, for their confidence in his leadership capacity and their steadfast support.
“The Governor stood by me when I crossed over from Lagos State to Ogun West as a Senator and has always supported my development initiative as a Senator” he recalled.
The Senator acknowledged the invaluable role of Chief Olusegun Osoba, former governor of Ogun State and APC leader, for his guidance and fatherly counsel throughout the process.
“Baba Osoba, as I fondly call him, worked tirelessly day and night for my aspiration at different levels and as a former governor and elder statesman guided me rightly at critical juncture” he stated.
Senator Adeola further appreciated former governors, Senator Gbenga Daniel and Senator Ibikunle Amosun, for their support, noting that their contributions were instrumental in achieving a widely accepted consensus among the party hierarchy in the state.
He commended the Ogun State APC executive led by Chief Yemisi Sanusi for managing the process with maturity and ensuring a peaceful and inclusive outcome. He also praised fellow aspirants for demonstrating statesmanship and placing party unity above personal ambition.
“I sincerely thank all my co-aspirants for their understanding and commitment to the party’s consensus principle. I particularly appreciate Hon. Gboyega Nosiru Isiaka and Hon. Abiodun Akinlade for prioritising the collective interest of Ogun West and Ogun State. I also acknowledge the goodwill messages from Distinguished Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, Mr Tunde Lemo, Hon. Kayode Jellili Amusan, and others. There are no winners or losers. The APC family has emerged stronger and more united,” he stated.
Senator Adeola called on all support groups, associations, and party faithful across Ogun State to come together in a renewed spirit of unity, purpose, and collective responsibility. He stressed that this moment calls for solidarity, not division, and urged all stakeholders to align behind the APC as one united family committed to a shared vision of progress. According to him, the task ahead is clear: to mobilise effectively, strengthen grassroots engagement, and deliver decisive electoral victories for the party at all levels in the forthcoming general elections.
He further appealed to all sons and daughters of Ogun State, both at home and in the diaspora, to embrace hope and a collective vision for a greater future. He expressed confidence that the state stands on the threshold of a new era of inclusive growth and sustainable development.
Senator Adeola assured that, if given the mandate, his administration would usher in a new phase of massive, people centred development, driven by innovation, economic expansion, and improved social welfare. He emphasised that the journey ahead is not about sectional interests but about the shared destiny and commonwealth of Ogun State.
Finally, he pledged to build on the strong foundations laid by previous administrations, particularly the significant strides recorded over the past seven years, while advancing bold and forward looking initiatives that will benefit every part of the state.
“In unity lies our strength and in our shared purpose, we will secure a brighter future for Ogun State. Together, we will rise, together we will build and together we will win,” the senator affirmed.
