The Orashi National Congress, ONC, the apex socio-cultural body of the four Orashi Local Government Areas – Abua/Odual, Ahoada West, Ahoada East and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni – has commended the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for his humane and timely intervention for flood victims in the state.
The Congress also lauded the Rivers State Flood Prevention and Management Committee led by Her Excellency, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, DSSRS, Deputy Governor of Rivers State.
In a statement signed by its President General, Amb. Comrade Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, the ONC described the provision of financial assistance to victims affected by the recent devastating floods as a clear demonstration of responsive, compassionate and people-centered leadership.
“As a people living in the lower Niger basin, Orashi region is one of the worst-hit areas during every flooding season. Many of our communities in Orashi, Engenni, and Abua are still submerged, with farmlands, homes and livelihoods destroyed. This intervention from the Governor will go a long way in giving hope and succour to our displaced mothers, fathers and children,” the statement said.
The group particularly thanked the Deputy Governor, Prof. Odu, for her motherly and efficient coordination of the Committee, noting that her leadership shows that the government listens and feels the pulse of ordinary Rivers people.
ONC Position:
1. The Congress declared total support for all flood prevention and management efforts of the Rivers State Government.
2. It called on the Committee to ensure that financial assistance reaches the real victims in the hinterlands, especially in the most vulnerable Orashi communities that are often forgotten.
3. It urged people in Orashi to continue to support the administration of Gov. Fubara, who has continued to show that Orashi is at the heart of his New Rivers State agenda.
“On behalf of the Orashi people, we say thank you to our Talk-and-Do Governor,” Amb. Ibe added.
