ONC Commends Fubara Over Flood Management Committee Reconstitution, Expresses Confidence In Prof. Odu-Led Management Committee

The President General of notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress (ONC), Amb. Comrade Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, has commended the Rivers State Government, led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, for reconstituting the Rivers State Flood Management Committee to coordinate the state’s response to the 2026 flooding.

Ibe gave the commendation on Tuesday following the commencement of the distribution of relief materials to flood victims in Oyigbo and Eleme Local Government Areas by the Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Flood Management Committee, Prof. Mrs. Ngozi Nma Odu.

In a statement, the ONC President General described the intervention as timely, noting that the reconstitution of the committee would strengthen the state’s coordinated response to the impact of flooding across affected communities.

He expressed confidence in the ability of Prof. Odu, as Chairman of the committee, to effectively coordinate the intervention and deliver on its mandate.

According to Ibe, the committee’s early engagement with affected communities demonstrates the importance of a structured response to the humanitarian challenges associated with flooding.

He however, appealed to the Rivers State Government to consider increasing the quantity of relief materials being provided to affected residents, particularly as more communities may require assistance as the flood situation develops.

Ibe urged the committee to sustain its assessment and monitoring of affected communities to ensure that relief reaches residents who are in need, including those outside designated IDP camps.

The ONC President General reaffirmed the organisation’s support for initiatives aimed at protecting residents, alleviating the impact of flooding and strengthening disaster-response mechanisms across Rivers State.
