Oju Eko Initiatives is set to kick off its Community Walk, Fitness and Wellbeing Monthly Initiative, a programme designed to promote healthy living, active lifestyles, community bonding and overall wellbeing among residents.
The initiative will bring together athletes, youths, families, fitness enthusiasts, community stakeholders and residents for a monthly walk aimed at fostering healthier communities while strengthening social connections.
The maiden edition will cover a community route from Ojodu Berger to Ogba. Participants will walk through Sunday Market, continue along Wemco Road, and end at Omole Estate.
Organizers say the route was carefully chosen to pass through busy community hubs, allowing more residents to join in and experience the benefits of regular physical activity.
Speaking on the initiative, the brain behind the programme, Mr. Haruna Jubril, said the monthly walk is about more than just exercise.
“The programme revolves around staying fit, connecting with people, and building healthier communities,” Jubril stated.
“It is an opportunity for people of different ages and backgrounds to come together, get active, and support one another’s wellbeing.”
According to him, rising cases of lifestyle-related illnesses make it important for communities to embrace fitness as a lifestyle. The monthly walks, he added, will also serve as a platform for health talks, wellness education, and networking among residents.
Oju Eko Initiatives is inviting everyone to participate — from first-time walkers to seasoned athletes. The event is designed to be family-friendly and inclusive, with no registration fee.

The organization expects participation from community leaders, youth groups, market associations, schools, and health professionals who will use the platform to share tips on nutrition, mental health, and preventive healthcare.
Oju Eko Initiatives says the monthly walk will become a consistent feature in Ojodu and Ogba, with plans to expand to other communities across Lagos.
“The goal is simple: get people moving, get people talking, and get people healthy. When we walk together, we grow together,” Jubril added.
Residents interested in joining can follow Oju Eko Initiatives on social media for updates on date, time and meeting points for subsequent editions.
The first walk is expected to draw hundreds of participants and set the tone for what organizers hope will become one of Lagos’ leading grassroots wellness movements.
