Obanikoro Named As Hamzat’s Campaign DG Ahead Of 2027 Lagos Governorship Race

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has appointed former Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, as the Director-General of his campaign for the 2027 governorship election.
The announcement was made during an expanded meeting of the campaign council chaired by Hamzat on Wednesday.
Sources within the party disclosed that the appointment had received the backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu before it was officially unveiled to members of the council.
Party insiders described Obanikoro as a seasoned political strategist with extensive experience in election management and governance, noting that his emergence was widely accepted by members of the campaign structure.
A former Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, Obanikoro served as Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture under the administration of then-Governor Bola Tinubu between 1999 and 2003 before moving to the Senate to represent Lagos Central.
Following his diplomatic appointment as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Obanikoro also served in the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan as Minister of State for Defence and later Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Widely regarded as one of Lagos’ most experienced politicians, Obanikoro is expected to bring his political network, administrative background, and campaign experience to strengthen APC’s preparations for the 2027 governorship election in the state.
