How One Voice Started A Movement: ONC Thanks Burna Boy, VDM, Winnie Miller For Rebuilding Odiokwu School

The Orashi National Congress, ONC, has expressed appreciation to Grammy-winning artist, Burna Boy, social media activist VeryDarkMan and Miss Winnie Miller for the rebuilding and commissioning of Ubie Community Secondary School, Odiokwu in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The school was commissioned on October 16, 2026, at Igbu Odiokwu.

In a press statement signed by its President General, Amb. Comrade Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, the ONC said what began as one young woman’s courageous cry for justice has become a story of hope, compassion and community transformation.

Ibe recalled that on February 26, 2026, Winnie Miller exposed the deplorable learning condition of the school through a video where she interviewed students and the Principal and called on government to intervene.

He alleged that she was assaulted and intimidated for the act, reportedly involving the Chairman of Ahoada West LGA, an action he said he strongly condemned.

“Winnie, you have proven that one voice can start a movement. The entire Orashi Nation celebrates your bravery,” he said.

He also thanked VeryDarkMan for amplifying her voice, travelling to Odiokwu to see the situation and using his platform to draw national attention to the plight of the children, as well as supervising the rebuilding project.

“Thank you for standing with Winnie and the children of Odiokwu. Orashi will never forget you,” Ibe stated.

The ONC President General particularly thanked Burna Boy, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, for committing N250 million of his personal resources to rebuild the school.

“You have not just rebuilt classrooms; you have restored hope, dignity and a future to children who suffered years of neglect. Your greatest legacy will not only be your Grammys, but the lives you have touched in Odiokwu,” he said.

Ibe said the cause is personal to him as a son of Ekpeye and Orashi, noting that he had fought similar battles for Ogbele Community Primary School and St. Paul’s Primary School, Ahoada, which were eventually rebuilt after years of advocacy.

He announced that the ONC under his leadership shall organize a Special Appreciation Dinner in honour of Winnie Miller, VeryDarkMan and Burna Boy.

While celebrating the feat, Ibe questioned why children had to wait for a viral video, an activist and a musician before getting a decent school, stressing that providing quality education is a fundamental responsibility of government.

He urged political representatives to prioritize education, welcome development initiatives and stop allowing politics to block progress.

“One young woman raised awareness. One activist amplified her voice. One generous artist responded. Today, a community celebrates a new school. This is proof that social media can be more than entertainment – it can be a tool for advocacy, accountability and lasting change,” he said.

“26th February 2026 was a day of pain, but 16th October 2026 will be remembered as a day of hope and transformation for Odiokwu,” Ibe added.
