Among the Yoruba people is a popular saying: “Ìjẹ tí ẹ jẹ tété, ẹ má jẹ Dagunro; Dagunro ò ṣe jẹ.” It is a proverb that symbolizes resilience, divine preservation, and the futility of every evil plot against a person whose time has not come. It teaches that while some prey may be easy to consume, there are those whom destiny and God have preserved beyond the reach of their enemies. Such is the story of Dagunro.
The recent assassination attempt on the Director-General of the Osun APC Gubernatorial Campaign Council, Rep. Wole Oke, reminds us of this timeless proverb. By the grace of God and the swift intervention of the Nigeria Police Force, Osun State Command, the evil plot was foiled before it could succeed. The Command has already arrested three suspects while investigations continue to uncover other individuals connected with the criminal act.
The professionalism, vigilance, and prompt response of the Osun State Police Command deserve the appreciation of every law-abiding citizen. At a time when criminals sought to undermine peace and democracy, the Police rose to their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property. Their proactive action has rightly earned the commendation of residents across Osun State.
Rep. Wole Oke is no ordinary political figure. He is a formidable grassroots mobiliser, an experienced legislator, and a political juggernaut whose influence continues to reshape the political landscape of Osun State. His recent political engagements have significantly strengthened the All Progressives Congress (APC), while weakening the structures of the Accord Party in many parts of the state. His unwavering commitment to ensuring the victory of Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) in the August 15 governorship election has become evident to both supporters and opponents alike.
It is therefore, not surprising that those who have seen the clear handwriting on the wall may resort to desperate and condemnable actions. Having realised that the momentum is shifting steadily in favour of the APC, some allegedly considered the unthinkable; the elimination of one of the party’s strongest political assets. But God had a different plan. What evil conceived, God frustrated. What enemies intended, divine intervention and the vigilance of the Nigeria Police Force prevented.
I give all glory to Almighty God for preserving the life of Rep. Wole Oke. I also extend my sincere appreciation to the Commissioner of Police and the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, Osun State Command, for their courage, professionalism, and prompt action in frustrating this criminal enterprise.
As Osun approaches the August 15 governorship election, I urge all residents and citizens of our dear state to remain calm, law-abiding, and confident. Security agencies are carrying out their constitutional responsibilities, and every legitimate effort is being made to ensure that the election is conducted peacefully.
To members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress across Osun State, this is not a time for intimidation or retaliation. Rather, it is a time to intensify peaceful mobilisation, voter education, and lawful political engagement. Our party has always stood for progressive governance, justice, peace, and democratic ideals. We must continue to demonstrate these values in our words and actions.
I remain confident that the people of Osun will make the right choice by electing Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) as the next Governor of Osun State.
As for Rep. Wole Oke, I pray that God will continue to preserve him. He shall live long to reap the fruits of his labour, and every evil conspiracy against his life shall continue to fail.
