The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has called on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to continue praying for the peace, unity and stability of Nigeria while supporting the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consolidate the ongoing reforms and development across the country.
Comrade Dauda made the appeal on Thursday while speaking at the monthly prayer meeting of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) held at the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat.
Addressing church leaders and members of staff, the chairman said Nigeria was passing through a period of economic reforms that required understanding, patience and constructive support from citizens. He urged religious leaders to continue praying for the country’s leaders and to encourage messages that promote peace, unity and national development.
The chairman noted that the impact of local government autonomy was becoming evident in Lagos State, where councils now have greater capacity to execute people-oriented projects. He highlighted ongoing road and bridge construction, educational support initiatives, environmental sanitation programmes and healthcare interventions being implemented by the Ikeja Local Government under his administration.
He also appealed to residents to support the council’s environmental sanitation drive by disposing of waste responsibly and cooperating with approved waste operators, stressing that environmental cleanliness remains a collective responsibility.
Responding on behalf of the Christian Association of Nigeria, the Vice Chairman of CAN in Ikeja Local Government, Evangelist David Olufemi, commended the chairman for engaging the Christian community and keeping them informed about the activities of the council.
He assured the Council Chairman of the association’s continued prayers and support, describing the administration’s developmental efforts as visible and worthy of encouragement.
The prayer meeting ended with special intercessions for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the leadership of Ikeja Local Government, members of staff and their families, asking God to grant the nation enduring peace, unity, wisdom and sustainable development.
