PRECIOUS ALECHI IYEUWA
Former Governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, CON, has been honoured with the “Excellence & Service to Humanity Award” by the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) Alumni, 80s Reunion group.
The award was presented during the grand 80s Reunion Dinner and Award Ceremony held in Umuahia, the Abia State Capital, with the theme: “Celebrating Excellence & Service to Humanity”.
H. E Amaechi, led members of the UNIPORT 80s Alumni on a tour to major infrastructural projects executed by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti. The group expressed satisfaction with the quality and scope of the projects executed under Governor Otti’s administration within just two years in office.
Speaking during the tour, Amaechi lauded the Governor’s efforts, describing the transformation taking place in Abia as “very impressive and heartwarming”. He specifically praised the quality of road construction and highlighted key projects such as the Port Harcourt Road in Aba, Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Abiriba-Ohafia Road, the Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard, and the ongoing reconstruction of Omenuko Bridge.
Also speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIPORT, Professor Owunari Georgewill, applauded Governor Otti’s developmental strides in various sectors, including Power, Infrastructure, and Waste Management. He further commended the Governor’s interventions in the University of Port Harcourt, such as the construction of the Faculty of Social Sciences building.
Prof. Georgewill used the opportunity to appeal for continued support from the Governor and other alumni, noting the challenges the institution faces in providing adequate accommodation for its over 40,000 students and 5,000 staff members.
The reunion dinner attracted top government officials, captains of industry, and other distinguished personalities who came together to celebrate excellence, service, and enduring alumni bonds.
