Total Wellness With Dr Robert Onyemaechi Uzu On Prostate Cancer: New Strategies For Prevention And Natural Therapeutic Approaches

The prostate glad is a walnut-sized gland in the male reproductive system, where most of the semen that carries sperm are produced. Its main function is to produce fluid (prostatic fluud) that forms part of the semen. This fluid contains enzymes (prostate specific antigen, also known as PSA), proteins, and minerals such as zinc  and citric acid that help to protect and nourish sperm.

The sperm is produced in the testes. It also plays a role in hormone production and supports the regulation of urine flow.

The prostate gland is located beneath the bladder and surrounds the upper urethra,  the tube that transports urine from the bladder.

The commonest health issues of prostate are an inflamed prostate, prostate enlargement, and prostate cancer.

Inflamed prostate (prostatitis) is a condition of the prostate gland linked with swelling and irritation.  It can result into painful urination and pain in the pelvic and genitals area.

Bacteria infections may as well cause this swelling and irritation.

Prostate enlargement, also known as benigh prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is a condition where the prostate glad has grown more than the actual healthy size of the prostate gland. The fact that it is enlarged does not signify that it is cancerous.

Prostate cancer is a cancer growing in the prostate gland. It is the most common type of cancer that affects men and the second leading cause of death in men.

Any man above 40 years is at the risk of developing any of these prostate problems. More so, family history of prostate issues, being a black man, unhealthy lifestyles such as excessive consumption of processed and junk foods, alcoholic intake, smoking, lack of physical activities, obesity, are all risk factors for developing prostate issues.

Symptoms may include inability to urinate, incomplete emptying of the bladder, dribbling at the end of urinating, frequent urinating during the day and/ or at night, blood in the urine, fatigue, unexplained weight loss, difficulty in starting, maintaining and stopping urine stream. etc.

Prostate test is the most ideal procedure to assess the status of the prostate gland, like Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test. This test measures the level of PSA in the blood and screening for prostate cancer. Other tests include Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) for detection of prostate cancer and symptoms, Transrectal Ultrasound (TRUS) test used to guide Biopsy), magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), for prostate cancer screening and diagnosis,  Urine Tests for possible infection, and Cystoscopy to visualize the urethra and the bladder functionalities.

Natural remedies include not just maintaining a balanced diet but also having an eating plan. Engage in water therapy. Take a full glass cup of water first thing in the morning and last before retiring to  bed. Quit smoking, alcohol and drastically reduce consuming processed or refined foods, excess fats, including suya, shawama, caffeine, soft drinks, milk and ice cream.
