Yesterday’s EU/UK town hall meeting with Governor Soludo was another resounding success story. It’s clear that Soludo’s approach to governance prioritizes constant engagement with the people. Given Anambra’s unique demographic, where many residents live abroad, Soludo’s mobile governance model is a game-changer, empowering citizens to contribute to the state’s growth and development. This is one in series of diaspora engagements that have dotted Soludo’s leadership.

The meeting was engaging, but what stood out was Soludo’s adept handling of the session. He responded to a range of questions, outlining his achievements and “Next Big Steps” for the next 46 months. One notable exchange was with an IPOB member, whose question seemed disconnected from the meeting’s purpose and echoed divisive rhetoric. Soludo tactfully pointed out the misstep, emphasizing that the meeting wasn’t an opportunity for lamentation, but a chance to move forward and discuss the prosperity of the homeland.

Soludo’s leadership is marked by clarity of purpose and a willingness to serve all, regardless of background. The positive feedback and declarations of intent to make positive contributions to the advancement of the homeland from participants are a testament to its effectiveness. As Igbo leaders, recognizing the importance of engaging with the diaspora community is crucial – neglect can have far-reaching consequences. In crafting a liveable and prosperous homeland, no one would be left behind!
