
The leadership of respected Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress, ONC, said that it has received with joy the news of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council setting up a panel to intervene in the impeachment saga In Rivers State.
The ONC equally lauded the two additional members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who joined the call for dialogue over impeachment, saying it is a welcome development and very commendable.
The President General of the ONC on Wednesday, 14th January, 2026, said, “The Congress wishes to commend the custodians of our culture and tradition, the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council, for setting up a panel to intervene in the impeachment saga in our beloved state. This is great news and we must commend our royal fathers for that initiative”.
“We must equally commend Hon. Barile Nwakoh of Khana Constituency I and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, who came out to say that they now favour a peaceful resolution of the political crisis.”
“We therefore, highly appreciate their decision to step back in the interest of peace and stability. Since four of the 26 lawmakers have now pulled out of the impeachment proceedings, we hereby call on the rest of the legislators to tow the path of peaceful resolution to the matter. We are optimistic that the remaining Honourable Members will drop the idea of impeachment in the coming days in the interest of Rivers people.”
