Peter Obi Describes Nigeria As A Difficult Nation To Govern

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has described Nigeria as a profoundly difficult country to govern, particularly for leaders who are committed to doing the right thing.
Obi made this statement during a special church service held at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Aguiyi Ironsi Layout, Umuahia, to commemorate the two-year anniversary of Governor Alex Otti’s administration in Abia State.
Addressing the congregation, Obi emphasized the complex and often challenging nature of Nigeria’s governance landscape, stressing that it demands resilience, sincerity, and vision from those in leadership positions.
“This country is not easy to govern, especially for anyone who genuinely wants to do the right thing. The challenges are numerous and sometimes overwhelming,” Obi said.
In a moment of political magnanimity, Obi commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as “giant strides” in governance. While he did not delve into specific policies or achievements, the acknowledgement from the opposition leader was seen as a gesture of national unity and statesmanship.
“We must give credit where it is due. President Tinubu has made some significant efforts, and that deserves to be acknowledged,” he added.
The event, which brought together members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, political leaders, and well-wishers, also served as a platform for Obi to laud Governor Alex Otti for his performance in the past two years. He praised Otti’s commitment to transparency, infrastructural development, and prudent financial management in Abia State.
“Governor Otti is showing that good governance is possible when leaders are focused and people-oriented,” Obi noted.
Peter Obi, who served as Governor of Anambra State from 2006 to 2014, has been widely recognized for his stance on frugality, accountability, and reforms. Since the 2023 elections, he has continued to play a prominent role in Nigeria’s political discourse, often advocating for governance built on values, merit, and social justice.
As the nation continues to grapple with economic and security challenges, Obi’s remarks reflect the broader call for responsible leadership and bipartisan collaboration in addressing Nigeria’s pressing issues.
