Orashi people, who are domiciled in Rivers State, Delta State, Imo State and Anambra State, have made a strong call for the creation of Orashi State.
Cisca News reports that they made the call for referendum on the creation of Orashi State on Saturday 27th September, 2025, at the end of a crucial meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
At the end of the meeting, which drew participants from Rivers State, Delta State, Imo State and Anambra State, they made the unanimous decision to collect signatures from the affected areas and reach out to the National Assembly for the needed attention.
Speaking to the media, one of the critical stakeholders and President General of the Orashi National Congress, Amb Comrade Emeni Ibe said, “At the end of our crucial meeting today, with participants drawn from Rivers State, Delta State, Imo State and Anambra State, we unanimously decided to push for the creation of Orashi State”.
“It must be noted that in the past states were created by the Military administrations as a result of cries of marginalization, conflicts and other factors. Right now, agitations are also up in the air for the creation of new states.
While the agitation itself is not new, the ongoing debate, which is part of the constitution amendments review, presents yet another chance for a robust conversation on governance in Nigeria.”
“Many are right now talking about proposals for creation of more Local Government areas but that is not our focus. And our agitation for the creation of Orashi State cannot be dismissed because it is borne out of genuine concern by our people domiciled in four states.”
“We believe that new local council areas can be created when our demand for Orashi State is granted. The creation of Orashi State can bring with it massive development in different areas. New schools and other government infrastructures will be built and they will definitely attract the needed development by our people.”
“Out of the four states where Orashi people are domiciled, any of them can be chosen as the aggregation point.”
“We are hereby calling on our people in all the Wards, villages and towns to endorse the move and append their signatures, which we will collate and send to the National Assembly before the end of October 2025.”
“We equally unanimously endorsed the reelection bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. At the meeting, we declared our total support and we hope the he will be the Civilian President to sanction the creation of new states, Orashi State inclusive.”
