Notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, Orashi National Congress, ONC, has supported the call by the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni people for the sustenance of electricity as the only one major dividend benefitted by the ordinary people in the area.
The support by the ONC followed the outcry by people in the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni axis as their attention was drawn to reports that Oando Energy Company Ltd., operators of the OB/OB Gas Plant, was allegedly considering withdrawing from the maintenance of electricity supply to their communities.
In a statement signed by the President General of Orashi National Congress, Amb Comrade Emeni Ibe, the group said, “We join voices with well meaning and patriotic Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni people to ask Oando Energy Company Ltd., operators of the OB/OB Gas Plant, not to withdraw from the sustenance of electricity supply to our people”.

“It must be noted that the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni axis remains one of the greatest contributors to the wealth and sustenance of Nigeria’s economy through its abundant mineral resources. And the provision and maintenance of free electricity in the area by operating companies remains the only dividend benefitted by the people.”
“We therefore, advise that the company should not stop fulfilling the obligation of maintaining electricity supply because it will amount to abandoning their responsibility and a breach of established community relations and social justice.”
“The ONC stands with the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni people on this matter. We hereby call on Community Development Committees, Traditional Rulers, and all stakeholders to speak with one voice as the sustenance of the electricity supply is an issue that affects everyone in the area.
