ONC Expectant About Return Of Democratic Governance In Rivers State

Respected Niger Delta socio-cultural group, Orashi National Congress, ONC, ably led by Amb. Comrade Emeni Ibe, has expressed their excitement as they are expectant of imminent return of democratic governance to Rivers State after six months of emergency rule.

Following an Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service on Sunday 14th September by the Sole Administrator, the ONC believes that they will soon witness the full restoration process of democratic governance in the state.

In a statement issued by the ONC President General on Sunday, the group said, “It has been six months of emergency rule in our dear state. As the people of Rivers State are preparing for the return of democratic structures, we wish to thank Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his fatherly intervention and resolve to stick by the announced six months period without postponement “.

“We equally reiterate our support for the duly elected Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and his Deputy, Prof Ngozi Odu, an illustrious daughter of Orashi Region, who we are proud to be associated with as a mother to the ONC.”

“The ONC strongly believes that His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara is coming back with renewed determination and commitment for more service to the Rivers people. The Governor’s comeback may not necessarily be about his interests but that of the Rivers people because of the current political situation in the state.”

“ONC is therefore, rolling out the drums in anticipation of the return of the democratic structures reflecting the wishes of the people as expressed through massive votes in the 2023 General Elections. As a matter of fact, the ONC is packaging grand celebration in all the LGAs of the Orashi region.”

“As we get set to receive the Executive Governor, his Deputy and the Honourable members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, the ONC believes that they would have reflected on the issues adduced for the six months emergency rule and learned the inherent lessons. They should please not allow for a repeat of the level of mudslinging and misunderstanding they had while the crisis lasted.”

“Within the last six months, so many things had happened. We want all the parties to now focus on the development and peace in Rivers State. The Executive arm and the Legislative arm should work together for the betterment of our dear state without acrimony.”

“We equally charge the newly elected Local Government Area Chairmen and Councillors to respect and work seamlessly with the Governor not minding their political leanings.”

“We earnestly expect the full restoration of democratic structures any moment from now. The ONC therefore, looks forward to the National Assembly and the Presidency in the coming days for the official declaration of the end to emergency rule in Rivers State.”
