The leadership of notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress, ONC, condemned in totality the impeachment proceedings initiated against His Excellency Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor, Prof Ngozi Odu, citing it as premature, uncalled for and an unfortunate development.
Speaking on the sad development, Amb Comrade Emeni Ibe, President General of the Congress, emphasized that while the legislature has the constitutional role in checks and balances, the impeachment process is unacceptable.
“It would be recalled that the budget of N1,485 trillion passed and approved by the National Assembly in May 2025 is still valid till August 2026 and Governor Fubara may not need to present a supplementary budget. The Orashi National Congress, ONC, therefore urges the leadership of the State Assembly to resist external pressure and discontinue the impeachment process to prevent total breakdown of law and order and destabilizing the State Government. “
“We need stability in the state as led by Governor Fubara and call for democratic principles to prevail. The Orashi National Congress, ONC, hereby call on Mr. President and the leadership of the National Assembly to intervene urgently before it’s too late. The President brokered peace the last time and the lawmakers should in the interest of the Rivers people allow peace to reign.”
“We equally extend the call to the National Executives of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to also use internal party machinery to resolve the issues since the lawmakers and the Governor are members of the same party.”
