Yet-to-be-identified number of persons were feared dead as a speeding tipper crashed into people along the Chisco Park Junction in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The crash, which occured at about 9:30pm on Friday night, July 25, came as shock to many, given the short period within which everything happened.
According to a video from the scene of the crash and a CCTV footage that captured the incident, the people were doing their usual night business and engaging in their usual activities when the tipper uncontrollably rammed into them, knocking many down, including motorcyclists, little girl, bystanders, and some petty traders.
Some road users who saw the tipper on time were able to escape the tragedy, which was suspected to have been caused by brake failure.
The video footages also showed some of the knocked-down victims lying on the ground, while some residents and other road users were seen bemoaning the incident and offering rescue assistance to the victims.
Efforts by this reporter to get the confirmation of the crash from the Corps Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State, CC Nnennaya Alexander, proved abortive, as she was yet to respond to the videos and the inquiry sent by the reporter as at the time of this report.
However, the Spokesperson of the Command, RC Margaret Onabe, promised to get back to the reporter, but was yet to do so as at the time of this publication.
