It is rather unfortunate that a semi-literate VDM has chosen to speak in ways that indirectly encourage mob actions against the government, and particularly against Lagos State. One cannot but ask: wetin Lagos do una?
Why has Lagos suddenly become the target of misdirected anger and destructive agitation?
In recent times, crusaders of evil tidings, those who thrive on sowing discord and undermining genuine progress, have become loud, bold, and unrelenting. They have directed their venom, not just against government, but also against the developmental blueprint laid down by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a visionary framework that continues to transform Lagos into a state of pride for Nigeria and Africa at large.
Let us be clear: Lagos is not the enemy. Lagos is the melting pot of Nigeria, the economic capital of West Africa, and a shining model of what good planning and consistency can achieve. It is therefore suspicious that the same people who benefit daily from Lagos’ opportunities would rather see it burn than replicate its progress in their own states.
If VDM has now become the compass for navigating conscience, then those who choose to follow must also take responsibility for the chaos and destruction that reckless direction will invite. Lagosians will never fold their arms and allow their heritage, their peace, and the legacies of their forefathers to be reduced to ashes by imported anarchy.
History has taught us valuable lessons. During the unfortunate events of the #EndSARS protests, what began as a genuine call for reform was hijacked by destructive elements. Lagos; the very state that had given refuge, livelihood, and hope to millions, became the primary target of violence. Public and private properties worth billions were destroyed, iconic infrastructures were burnt, lives were lost, and Lagos’ economic heartbeat was almost silenced. Yet, in the aftermath, it was Lagosians who bore the pain of rebuilding while those who instigated violence moved on with little consequence.
Even further back, Lagos has faced repeated attempts to destabilize its growth because it stands as a symbol of success in governance. From political upheavals to orchestrated civil unrest, Lagos has always remained resilient, bouncing back stronger each time. This resilience is not accidental; it is a testament to the spirit of Lagosians, industrious, progressive, and deeply protective of their state.
Let it be emphasized once more: I am not opposed to legal protest. Lawful dissent is a democratic right. But Lagos will never be allowed to serve as a playground for lawlessness or politically motivated violence. Those who feel the urge to protest should please channel their energy to their own states. Lagos has carried enough of the nation’s burden and will not permit itself to be dragged backward by destructive forces.
The Asiwaju developmental blueprint is not a mere political slogan. It is a tested and proven framework that has given Lagos modern road networks, improved healthcare, functional transportation systems, economic vibrancy, and opportunities that attract millions from across Nigeria. To attempt to destroy this legacy simply because of political bitterness or the reckless utterances of a self-styled VDM is not only irresponsible, it is a direct attack on the collective destiny of Lagosians.
We owe it to ourselves, to our children, and to generations unborn, to defend Lagos.
We must protect its peace, safeguard its economy, and uphold its values. Lagosians will never sit akimbo while outsiders plot its downfall.
Lagos is not the problem; Lagos is the solution. And no amount of mob-inspired agitation or crusade of evil tidings will ever change that truth.
