Ikeja Council Chairman, Comrade AKOD Presents Offer Letters To Over 200 Beneficiaries Of Holiday Job

In a bold and unprecedented steps towards empowering the next generation at the grassroots level, the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), today officially flagged off the AKOD Holiday Job Programme with the presentation of offer letters to over 200 beneficiaries, marking a significant milestone in the local government’s drive to engage and empower young people within the community.

The ceremony, which took place at the Hall of the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat, witnessed a robust turnout of enthusiastic students and school leavers, alongside key stakeholders and council officials.

In his opening remarks, the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Comrade Jubril Aliu, welcomed participants and commended the chairman for his visionary approach to leadership, particularly in investing in the younger generation.

Delivering his keynote address, the Chairman, Comrade AKOD expressed joy at the successful launch of the programme, noting that it was inspired by the need to give back to society while also providing young people with practical experience that could shape their career paths and build their confidence in public service. He emphasized that Ikeja must continue to serve as a model in youth engagement and development, in line with his I.K.E.J.A AGENDA.

“This initiative is more than just a job; it is a gateway to learning, service, exposure and discipline. We believe in the power of early engagement and we are proud to be laying the foundation today”AKOD stated.

The training session for the beneficiaries was handled by Mr. Adedamola Koledoye, who facilitated a session on Emotional Intelligence, Ethical Conduct, and Data Gathering. He emphasized the importance of integrity and professionalism, especially as the students will be representing the government in the course of their duties.

As a show of appreciation, two beneficiaries, on behalf of all participants, expressed gratitude to the Chairman and the entire leadership of the Council. They pledged to be responsible, diligent, and excellent ambassadors of Ikeja Local Government during the period of their engagement.

Offer letters were formally presented by the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore, and the six councillors of Ikeja Local Government, who all graced the occasion and showed solidarity with the administration’s efforts to promote inclusive youth empowerment.

The event ended with a Vote of Thanks delivered by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore, who praised the Chairman for always prioritizing initiatives that impact lives directly. She urged the beneficiaries to take the opportunity seriously and maintain a high level of discipline throughout the holiday job duration.

The AKOD Holiday Job Programme is designed to run for two months, providing temporary employment opportunities for secondary school students and school leavers between the ages of 16 and 25. The initiative stands as a testament to AKOD’s proactive governance style and his desire to leave no youth behind.
