The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Senator Uche Ekwunife, CON, has paid glowing tribute to the late Rt. Hon. Chief Agunwa Anaekwe (Ide Anaocha), former Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, describing him as a national icon and a statesman of uncommon courage.

Ekwunife, who visited the family to sign the condolence register, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, recalling Anaekwe’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s democratic journey. She said his life was defined by integrity, public service, and a strong commitment to national unity.

“As I signed the condolence register, I was overwhelmed with emotion; not just grief, but admiration for a man whose impact transcended generations,” Ekwunife said.

“Chief Anaekwe was a trailblazer, one of the finest political minds of his generation. His emergence as Speaker during a critical period in our nation’s history remains a legacy of honour.”

The Senator noted that Ide Anaocha championed democratic values with boldness and clarity, adding that his contributions echoed the hopes of millions, especially in the South-East. She emphasized that even after leaving public office, he continued to mentor young leaders and advocate for justice and good governance.

“His passing is not only a loss to Anaocha or Anambra State, but to the entire country,” she added.

“We have lost a father, a leader, and an icon of legislative excellence.”

Ekwunife prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and urged leaders across the country to emulate his legacy of purposeful and patriotic leadership.
