A well-known son of the soil and philanthropist, Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, popularly known as Mazi Gburugburu (Okpata Ozuo Oha Nile), has donated the sum of Fifty Million Naira (₦50,000,000) to SS. Peter and John Cathedral, Orlu Diocese, Anglican Communion, located in Nkwere Local Government Area of Imo State. The donation is aimed at completing ongoing church projects and supporting newly commissioned Anglican priests awaiting deployment to various communities across the Orlu Zone.
The Presiding Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev’d Benjamin Chinedum Okeke, had earlier invited Dr. Amadi to the Diocese’s Ordination Ceremony held on 23rd December 2025. However, Dr. Amadi was unable to attend the ceremony at the time due to overwhelming engagements but Mazi Gburugburu assured the Bishop of a future visit, a promise he fulfilled on Monday, 5th January 2026.
While addressing the congregation, the Bishop described Dr. Amadi as a man of true religion, a man who loves the Church and who cares deeply for people irrespective of ethnicity or faith. He noted that Dr. Amadi’s positive footprints within the Orlu Zone and the wider Christian community are immeasurable and indelible, adding that his support for churches and community development in Orlu land has continued to make a positive impact.
In his response, Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi expressed profound gratitude to the Archbishop for the honour accorded him to address the Bishops, clergy, and both newly ordained and senior priests of the Diocese. “The Church should be the first and final hope, not just for the common man, but for humanity at large,” he stated.
He further advised the newly ordained priests awaiting their postings to remain firmly rooted in the Word of God, urging them to apply wisdom, patience, and non-kinetic conflict-resolution approaches in addressing challenges within their parishes and host communities across the Orlu Zone.
In a grand gesture of goodwill, Dr. Amadi formally announced the ₦50 million donation to SS. Peter and John Cathedral, charging the Bishop and the Church leadership to continue exercising prudence, transparency, and accountability. Dr. Amadi made it clear that his support for the Church has nothing to do with politics, but is purely to encourage the spread of the Gospel and strengthen the work of God at the grassroots.
He further encouraged the Church to complete ongoing projects and to support the newly commissioned Anglican priests who will be deployed to various villages for evangelical work.
Many community members present at the event expressed joy and appreciation, describing the donation as a big relief and a timely support for the Church and its priests serving in rural communities.
Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi is a proud member of the Action Peoples’ Party (APP), whose symbol—the Elephant—represents strength, resilience, and purposeful leadership.
