‘GBENRO AKERELE

Information at hand is that the newly formed coalition of ADC is set to participate in the forthcoming Local Governments elections coming up on Saturday, 12th July, 2025.
A litmus test can be defined as something (such as an opinion about a political or moral issue) that is used to make a judgment about whether someone or something is acceptable.
In order to wrestle with the ruling party, the APC in Lagos, Rauf Aregbesola – the Secretary of the coalition had been meeting with members of PDP and Labour Party for collaborations. If he knows he has the strength he would have used his ADC members (that is if there is anybody with ADC identity) to be fully part of the elections.
His meeting with the two parties is just to tell APC that not only them own Lagos State. Meanwhile, PDP as a party, had made it known that they are participating in the elections and getting prepared for it. So, I do not think they will be ready for a lesser Party to dominate and use their structures to ride into fame.
The questions now are:
— What makes Aregbesola believe he can win any LGA or LCDA in Lagos State in an elections duly and wholly organised by the State itself?
– What makes Aregbesola believed that he is still popular and acceptable in Lagos State?
– What makes him believe that with all the numbers of PDP and Labour in Lagos State put together they can make any impact in the elections?
Aregbesola should understand that Lagos is no more the way he left it. He should understand that his foot soldiers in Lagos State have been totally decimated to nothing.
Alimosho, which was his base and was under his control, his members are no more relevant in the scheme of things. The tide has changed as no axis of the Federal Consistuency has any of his cronies contesting.
May be he believes that his old glory will still work in a State, where he had publicly disgraced the leader of the party who now has the capacity to influence any decision.
When he was still active in Lagos State, which party had ever won any LG in any Local Government election? As once a leader of Alimosho, did he give any room to that at all?
APC is fully prepared for this elections by not underratimg any Party notwithstanding the fact they are fully in control of the elections. Vigorous campaign is embarked upon to sensitise the public on the need to vote for their Party.
Aregbesola should have waited for the Osun or Ekiti States off season elections coming up next year to test his capacity and not Lagos State Local Government elections because he will never get a draw.
I am sure he didn’t consult well before taking this step, rather he believes in himself that he can use his old glory.
Local Governments like this of Lagos State is not worth using as a test of strength because the outcomes will not make any meaning to his new Party.
He needs to be advised not to pour water in a basket.
