An Open Letter To All G.Os And Church Leaders In Nigeria

Having painstakingly studied the scriptural texts on Gospel and now, having a deeper knowledge about the “Revelation of Christ”, I am compelled to address the current state of the church in our nation.

This letter comes from a place of burden, humility, and sincere concern for the spiritual health of the body of Christ.

The church was never designed to function as a financial training hall, a political rally ground where politicians are invited to use the pulpit to campaign, that’s an error, neither, is it a performance arena where comedians are allowed to perform, or a marketplace for miracle items, ditto the man in Warri.

The pulpit is a sacred trust, not a platform for entertainment, business ambitions, or personal influence.

It is deeply troubling that a Pastor friend of mine was dismissed, by a popular Nigerian Church, simply because he failed to meet an “offering target.” 💔💔

When spiritual service is reduced to monetary quotas and ministers are assessed like revenue officers, the essence of Christ’s mission is already compromised.

Today, many people attend church once or twice and withdraw. They leave quietly because they encounter distorted doctrines, manipulative teachings, unhealthy leadership practices, or a sense that they are being used rather than shepherded.

Men and women enter church seeking clarity, comfort, and salvation, yet many leave with heavier hearts than they came with.

This should not be so.

The church was meant to be a lighthouse where the lost find direction, a refuge for healing, a community where truth is lived, taught, and protected. Yet, in many places, the Nigerian church has drifted from this calling.

We are witnessing unsettling realities:

• Churches functioning more as performance halls than places of transformation.

• Ministries valued more for structures and crowds than for genuine discipleship.

• Offerings treated like revenue reports and pastors judged by “targets” rather than testimonies.

• Political influence pursued more vigorously than spiritual depth.

• Members in hardship financing the affluence of leaders who preach sacrifice but seldom demonstrate it.

• Prophecies turned into commodities and human fear used as financial leverage.

• Miracle items sold in ways that resemble superstition rather than scripture.

• Spiritual authority twisted into intimidation, where honest questions are branded as rebellion.

• Congregations where the weak feel unseen, the wounded feel unheard, and the doubtful feel condemned.

• The message of Christ overshadowed by the personality of preachers.😡😡

This decline should grieve us. Churches multiply while disciples diminish. Activities increase while genuine conversions decrease. Noise grows louder while truth grows fainter.

The central mission of the church has always been salvation, discipleship, service, compassion, and the faithful teaching of Christ. Yet, today, these pillars are too often overshadowed by practices that do not reflect the gospel we claim to preach.

This letter is not written to condemn but to call us back. It is a plea for sincerity, repentance, and restoration. It is a reminder that we must return to the simplicity, purity, and power of the “Revelation of Christ”.

May we find the humility and courage to realign the church with its true purpose.

Sincerely,

Taiwo Abiodun
