The President General of notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, Orashi National Congress, ONC, Amb Comrade Emeni Ibe, has hailed the strategic dialogue between the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and members of the National Assembly Committees oversighting emergency and disaster management.
Ambassador Ibe on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said that the dialogue will help in deepening legislative support and strengthening NEMA’s institutional capacity for more effective disaster management in Nigeria.
The ONC PG, who doubles as the National President of the Southern Youth Foundation of Nigeria said, “The strategic dialogue between the National Assembly and NEMA is a welcome development. It is cheering to note that the legislature and the emergency agency are rubbing minds on critical issues of disaster preparedness, response, and risk reduction”.
“The National Assembly’s collaboration is crucial for NEMA to deliver its statutory functions effectively, particularly in proactive disaster prevention, community resilience, and early warning systems.”
“The recent increase in the number of emergencies and magnitude of disasters call for robust coordination, legislative responsiveness, and budgetary commitment to protect citizens and national assets.”
“Aside relief distribution during disasters, I believe that there is need for continuous capacity-building for emergency responders to enhance preparedness and response at the Federal, State, and community levels. I therefore, strongly commend the strategic dialogue between the National Assembly and NEMA” Amb Comrade Ibe concluded.
