The President General of Orashi National Congress, ONC, Amb Comrade Emeni Ibe (JP AP), has appealed to residents of Oyigbo Local Government Area to remain calm and refrain from any form of protest against the Rivers State Flood Prevention and Management Committee, assuring that the Committee remains committed to equitable and effective flood management across the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, 10th November, 2025, the President General of the Congres commended the Committee’s proactive approach under the leadership of the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, DSSRS, in addressing flood challenges and providing relief materials to affected communities.
Amb. Ibe emphasized that flooding is a natural disaster that requires patience, cooperation, and collective responsibility, not confrontation. He urged Oyigbo residents to trust the process outlined by the Committee, noting that their turn for relief intervention and support has already been scheduled for 19th November, 2025, as contained in the Deputy Governor’s official statement.
“The Orashi National Congress aligns with the proactive and people-oriented steps taken by the Rivers State Government. We must all understand that logistics, weather conditions, and terrain affect the speed of response. Therefore, we appeal to our brothers and sisters in Oyigbo to maintain peace and allow the Committee to execute its mandate without obstruction,” Amb. Ibe stated.
He further lauded Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for his consistent commitment to the welfare of all citizens, irrespective of political or ethnic divides, adding that the flood intervention plan demonstrates the administration’s inclusive governance style.
The ONC leader also called on Local Government Chairmen and community leaders to actively support the government’s flood response by mobilizing residents for drain clearing, sensitization, and proper waste disposal to reduce the risk of recurring floods.
“The Orashi region stands in solidarity with the state government and the Flood Committee. We must all contribute to safeguarding lives and property during this critical period,” Amb. Ibe concluded.
The Orashi National Congress, known for its advocacy on environmental justice and equitable development, reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the state government, local authorities, and humanitarian partners in ensuring that no community in Rivers State is left behind in flood response and recovery efforts.
